How I work

Data - know what people are doing. Behavioural science and theory of mind - Understand why people are doing the behaviour. Creativity - envisage what else can be done under contexts and conditions that don't exist yet. Then, do experiments and look especially for outliers and counter intuitive behaviours and repeat the process.
  1. Understand the problem and any relevant contexts so are building the right thing.

  2. Establish a clear foundation for success by ensuring clarity before anything is built.

  3. Define a clear strategy (defined problem/guiding policy/coherent actions) that is easily understood.

I do this by asking lots of questions and embracing uncomfortable ones while gathering relevant research as feasible.
I believe well formed questions are the lifeblood of creativity, innovation and strategy.

Collaborating and listening to the expertise and insights of customers, and the relevant functions within an organisation such as engineering, quality assurance, marketing and design is key.

Frameworks such as role profiling and customer journey mapping can be applied as needed to investigate and inform design approaches. Or create new frameworks to directly address unique challenges on a project.

On most projects I map out constraints after the initial creative phase so as not to stifle ideas too early.
